Rum Balls Rumkugeln, plated and ready to serve

Rumkugeln are the German Christmas equivalent of a rum ball — but significantly more sophisticated, and they defy anyone to eat just one. The base is typically chocolate cake or ground almond biscuit mixed with cocoa, rum, and enough butter to form a truffle paste. This keto version uses almond flour as the base to create a dense, intensely chocolatey truffle with a bold rum kick and a dark cocoa coating.

Health Benefits

  • Dark cacao contains phenylethylamine, a compound naturally present in chocolate and studied for its properties.
  • The high-fat almond base provides sustained energy with minimal impact on blood sugar.
  • The rum contributes flavor in small quantities; alcohol itself offers no established nutritional benefit and should be enjoyed in moderation.
