Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef or pork
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion chopped
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1 can 14 oz diced tomatoes (no sugar added)
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1/2 cup beef broth low-sodium
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes optional
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 medium zucchinis spiralized into noodles
- Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef or pork and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet, and saute until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20-30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- In a separate skillet, saute the spiralized zucchini noodles for 2-3 minutes until tender.
- Serve the Bolognese sauce over the zucchini noodles, garnished with fresh basil.
Notes
Chef's Tip: Let the sauce simmer the full 20-30 minutes rather than cutting it short - that's what concentrates the flavor and gives Bolognese its signature depth. Keto Swap: traditional pasta is replaced with spiralized zucchini noodles.
