Leberkäse — despite its name meaning ‘liver cheese’ — contains neither liver nor cheese. It is a fine-ground, emulsified pork and beef mixture baked into a loaf, sliced thick, and fried in butter until a golden-brown crust forms. Topped with a fried egg, served with Bavarian sweet mustard, it is one of the most deeply satisfying meals in all of German cuisine — the definitive Munich diner experience.
