Brazilian Batida de Coco, plated and ready to serve

Brazilian Batida de Coco, Creamy Coconut Cachaça Cocktail

Batida means shaken, and batida de coco is a creamy, icy blend of cachaça and coconut milk, a favorite at beach kiosks and June festival parties. It usually gets its sweetness from condensed milk. This keto version uses coconut milk, a little cream and allulose.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces cachaça
  • 3/4 cup canned coconut milk
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons allulose
  • 1 cup ice
  • Toasted unsweetened coconut flakes for garnish

Instructions

  • Shake the can of coconut milk well before measuring.
  • Put the cachaça, coconut milk, cream, allulose and ice in a blender.
  • Blend for 20 to 30 seconds, until smooth, cold and frothy.
  • Pour into two glasses and top with a pinch of toasted coconut. Serve immediately.

Notes

Full-fat canned coconut milk gives the creamiest batida; carton coconut drinks are too thin. If the coconut milk has separated in the can, warm it briefly and whisk before using.
Chef's Tip: Chill the cachaça and coconut milk ahead of time so you need less ice and the drink stays thick and creamy.
Keto Swap: Traditional batida de coco is sweetened with condensed milk and sometimes sweetened coconut cream. Coconut milk, heavy cream and allulose keep it rich and sweet with very few carbs.
Success Tip: For a nonalcoholic version for the whole family, replace the cachaça with cold almond milk or coconut water and a few drops of vanilla.
